International Students Insurance provides essential health coverage for students studying in Canada, where provincial health plans may not cover international students. Without insurance, medical costs like doctor visits, hospital stays, and emergency treatments can be expensive. This insurance ensures access to necessary medical care, covering expenses for emergencies, consultations, and hospitalizations, helping students avoid financial strain while pursuing their education.
International students in Canada must have health insurance, as medical coverage varies by province. Some provinces offer health insurance to international students, while others require private plans. For instance, in British Columbia, students must apply for the Medical Services Plan (MSP) upon arrival, which includes a monthly fee. In provinces like Ontario, international students are not eligible for provincial health coverage and must obtain private insurance, often facilitated through their educational institutions. It's crucial for students to research and secure appropriate health insurance before starting their studies to avoid unexpected medical expenses.

Schedule A MeetingInternational Student Insurance begins on the effective date in your policy or upon arrival in Canada. Coverage ends when you return to your home country, your full-time enrollment ends, the policy expires, or you obtain government health insurance. Some plans may cover short trips outside Canada, excluding your home country.
*NOTE: A waiting period may apply if the insurance is purchased after arriving in Canada.
International students can extend their insurance before the policy expires, provided they still meet eligibility requirements, pay the additional premium, and have no changes in health status. The total coverage period, including extensions, cannot exceed 365 days. Some policies may offer automatic extensions for travel delays or emergencies. To avoid gaps in coverage, apply for an extension in advance.
International Student Insurance has certain exclusions, meaning specific medical conditions, treatments, and circumstances are not covered. Below are some common exclusions:
Conditions diagnosed or treated before the policy start date are excluded or have limited coverage.
Regular health exams, screenings, and vaccinations are typically not included.
Unless specified in the policy, routine dental work and vision exams are not covered.
